Buffalo Bills: Ranking the AFC East prior to the 2021 NFL Draft
2. New England Patriots
If there is one team that closed the gap the most with the Buffalo Bills among the other AFC East teams, it is the New England Patriots. They were one of the teams that spent the most this offseason and brought in a number of players on both sides of the ball like tight ends Hunter Henry and Jonnu Smith on offense and Matthew Judon and Kyle Van Noy on defense.
In addition to the free agent signings, they also are getting a few players returning this season who sat out last year due to the pandemic, which shouldn’t be overlooked. The biggest name in this group is linebacker Dont’a Hightower, who has been a starter for this defense for a number of years.
The story here, as with the rest of the AFC East, is going to be at quarterback. The team signed Cam Newton last offseason and he struggled for most of the season. However, they saw enough to bring him back on another one-year deal and if they don’t draft a quarterback in the early rounds, he will be the starter.
If Cam Newton can manage this offense and be productive, then the New England Patriots are the one team the Buffalo Bills need to worry the most about.
