Buffalo Bills: Ranking the AFC East prior to the 2021 NFL Draft

3. Miami Dolphins

The Miami Dolphins had a great season last year at 10-6 and came up just short in making it into the playoffs. While they are likely to be competitive again, at this part of the offseason there isn’t anything pointing to them improving or closing the gap with the Buffalo Bills.

Similar to the Jets, their success is going to hinge on their quarterback and what Tua Tagovailoa is able to do in his second season in the league. There were times last year he showed everyone why he was a Top 5 pick but then there were also times the offense was stagnant and he struggled.

This would cause the Dolphins coaching staff to go to Ryan Fitzpatrick but they no longer have that luxury as Fitzpatrick joined Washington this offseason. Although they did add Jacoby Brissett in free agency to be the team’s backup.

The Dolphins are likely hoping that the addition of Will Fuller, combined with a playmaker or two early in the NFL Draft, can help their young quarterback take that next step.

On the defensive side of the ball, the Dolphins invested a lot last offseason and have already moved on from some of those players as Kyle Van Noy was released and Shaq Lawson was traded. They did bring back Benardrick McKinney
