Taron Johnson
The last player on this list is Taron Johnson, which is probably the trickiest for the Buffalo Bills to make a decision on. On the one hand, Taron Johnson is a key part of this defense as the team’s starting nickel corner and played 78% of the defensive snaps this past year.
He also had two of the biggest plays all season with interceptions returned for a touchdown against the Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens.
However, on the other hand he did struggle earlier in the year and was even benched to start the game against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 5. Does it make sense to sign Taron Johnson to a contract extension for only half of a season of good football?
It is going to come down to the details of an extension. If the Buffalo Bills can sign Johnson to a middle of the road extension for the position that doesn’t include much guaranteed dollars, then it makes sense.
However, if Taron Johnson is looking to be paid like one of the best at his position then the front office should wait and see how he plays this year.
