On Sunday, Buffalo Bills defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier reportedly interviewed for the head coach position with the Houston Texans. While Frazier is certainly deserving of the position, this would be a huge loss for the Bills’ coaching staff.

Frazier was one of the first hires after Sean McDermott was named head coach of the Buffalo Bills. He has been their defensive coordinator over the past four seasons and in two of those seasons had a Top 3 defense in yards allowed (2018 and 2019).

If Frazier were to leave, the Buffalo Bills should have plenty of options both inside the organization and outside to replace him as defensive coordinator. These are four potential options for the Buffalo Bills.

The most likely candidate internally would be defensive line coach Eric Washington. He joined the Bills this past offseason but McDermott and Washington know each other very well. They both joined the Carolina Panthers in 2011, with McDermott stepping in as defensive coordinator and Washington as defensive line coach.

Washington would then go on to replace McDermott as defensive coordinator for the Panthers after McDermott left for the Bills and would spend two years in that role. He certainly knows this defense well and would help make a smooth transition from Frazier if Sean McDermott wanted to go that route.
