This is a break down of the snap counts for the Buffalo Bills in Week 12.
The Buffalo Bills were back on the field after their bye and were able to come away with a 27-17 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers. The bye week gives teams a chance to reassess their team and make more significant changes with an extra week of prep.
This was no different for the Buffalo Bills as they made a few notable changes with their snaps this week. This is a recap of some noteworthy changes for the team.
Buffalo Bills offense
The biggest change came along the offensive line as the Bills had all five starting offensive linemen play every snap. While this was a regular occurrence last year, that hasn’t been the case this season. The team elected to go with a starting five of Dion Dawkins, Jon Feliciano, Mitch Morse, Brian Winters and Daryl Williams.
While the run game improved, the pass protection struggled against the Chargers.
Speaking of the run game, it was Devin Singletary that finished with more yards from scrimmage but Zack Moss once again was on the field more, playing 60% of the snaps while Singletary played the other 40%.
At tight end, the Bills made Tyler Kroft inactive which created more playing time for second-year player Dawson Knox. He was on the field for 61% of the snaps and this is now the second consecutive game with over 60%. It will be interesting to see if this trend continues for Knox moving forward.
Buffalo Bills defense
The Buffalo Bills had three players play 100% of the defensive snaps, which was Jordan Poyer, Tremaine Edmunds, and A.J. Klein. This week the Bills played almost exclusively with two linebackers with Andre Smith playing only five snaps.
The coaching staff will need to figure out what the rotation will be once Matt Milano returns from injured reserve, which could be this week since they play primarily with two linebackers and Klein has been playing well.
This week nickel Taron Johnson saw a season-high in snaps (76) and was on the field for 92% of the snaps. This comes after he played all 100% of the snaps against the Cardinals and it appears this is more than a one-game situation.
The coaching staff also elected to go with Levi Wallace at the starting cornerback position opposite Tre’Davious White as he played all but one snap against the Chargers.
