Buffalo Bills: 3 top takeaways from Week 7 win over New York Jets
Offensive misfiring
Playing against 11 professional athletes is hard enough to do. It is even harder when you are playing against your own team and giving up yardage due to penalties.
Giving up 106 yards on 11 penalties, of which one saw a Gabriel Davis score be called back, the Buffalo Bills stood in their own way against the Jets. Between defensive offsides and an illegal formations call, the Bills took one step forward, two steps back multiple times throughout the game.
None of those calls were as deflating as the illegal formation call against Davis who was not lined up with the line of scrimmage. This robbed himself and Josh Allen of a passing touchdown which would have been Allen’s only score of the game.
In addition to the penalties, the Bills did not get their running back duo in Singletary and Moss’ game going until the second half. To that point, the Bills leading rusher was Josh Allen as he scrambled to pick up first downs at multiple points in the game. Between Devin Singletary and Zack Moss, the offense was only able to rack up 76 yards from their running backs. This is not what fans have been expecting especially after the team took Moss in the draft to complement Singletary.
If the Bills are to sustain any success in the colder months of the season the run game will have to be established earlier and often to get the most out of their talent.
