Buffalo Bills: 4 pleasant surprises from the first four games of 2020
By Jason Mattis
Gabriel Davis
The hope of any general manager is to have early returns on your draft picks. Brandon Beane and the Buffalo Bills have gotten exactly that out of 2020 fourth round draft pick Gabriel Davis. Sitting fourth on the depth chart behind a talented group of receivers Davis has made plays when called upon.
In limited opportunities, he has been perfect. So much, in fact, the rookie has caught all eight of his targets for 129 yards and two touchdowns. His average catch of 16.1 yards is a team-high.
He has stepped up when opponents took away Stefon Diggs and John Brown. In the first half against the Rams, while those receivers were held without a catch, the University of Central Florida product caught four balls while contributing on two touchdown drives. One of those catches was a beautiful toe-drag catch along the sidelines for 39 yards.
The development of the young receiver has been a joy to watch. If things keep progressing he could eventually blossom into an imposing 1-2 punch to secondaries with Diggs.
The Buffalo Bills have certainly gotten off to a wonderful start in a season in which expectations are high. And while you need several things to go your way the contributions of these four biggest positives early into the season have played the biggest of roles in that success.
