The Buffalo Bills will get some help in the secondary ahead of their Week 4 matchup with the Las Vegas Raiders.
All signs were pointing to this but the Buffalo Bills made it official when they activated cornerback Josh Norman off injured reserve. The veteran cornerback suffered a hamstring injury during training camp and was placed on injured reserve at the start of the season.
The team had released cornerback Cam Lewis earlier this week and since have re-signed him to their practice squad.
The question now is how much and what role Josh Norman will play in the Buffalo Bills defense. In training camp, Norman had been competing with Levi Wallace for the starting job opposite Tre’Davious White. He was actually listed as the starter on the team’s depth chart before Week 1.
However, the hamstring injury slowed him down and it was Wallace who returned to the starting role, which he played last season. The reason this becomes a question is Wallace hasn’t played great so far, even though he did have an interception this past week against the Los Angeles Rams.
When Josh Norman is playing at his best, he was one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL. The good news is that this was at a time that Norman was playing in Sean McDermott’s defense when both were with the Carolina Panthers.
The problem is that was five years ago dating back to the 2015 season. Since then, Norman struggled in his four season with Washington and was released after this past season, one where he was benched midway through the year.
In terms of knowing this defense, Josh Norman should have no issue in this department. The question lies in if at 32 years of age he can have a bounce-back year with the Buffalo Bills. This is one player that fans should pay close attention to in this game against the Las Vegas Raiders in terms of playing time and performance.
