For the second straight week, the Buffalo Bills remain in the top 10 in a number of weekly power rankings.
The Buffalo Bills move to 2-0 after coming away with a 31-28 victory over the Miami Dolphins. While the two opponents may not be some of the best in the NFL, the Bills have won games in pretty convincing fashion.
The power rankings certainly reflected that for Week 3 as the Buffalo Bills are firmly entrenched in the Top 10.
ESPN: Buffalo Bills move up one to sixth
In ESPN’s Week 3 power rankings, the Buffalo Bills move up one spot to sixth overall. This week they took a look at an under-the-radar fantasy football player and Marcel Louis-Jacques picked Cole Beasley:
"However, he has seen at least six targets in each of his first two games, turning them into 128 yards on nine catches. Beasley’s involvement in the passing game shouldn’t be a surprise, considering he is picking up where he left off in 2019 — when he saw at least six targets in 11 of the 15 games he played."
This is a great pick by Marcel Louis-Jacques as Beasley has clearly been a factor in the Buffalo Bills offense, even though they brought in Stefon Diggs this offseason. He has really benefited from the extra attention Diggs gets and Josh Allen continues to look his way.
NFL.com: Buffalo Bills remain at sixth
Dan Hanzus had the Buffalo Bills the highest prior to the season however they haven’t been able to move up any higher since. They still sit at sixth overall and Hanzus wrote:
"Here’s a fun stat from our NFL Research team: Allen is the second quarterback since 1948 to throw for 700 yards and complete 70 percent of passes with zero interceptions in the first two weeks of a season. The other guy? Patrick Mahomes."
The play of Josh Allen has undoubtedly been the most fun development for the Buffalo Bills this year. He is off to a historic start to the year and playing at a level fans haven’t seen at quarterback probably since the days of Drew Bledsoe.
Bleacher Report: Bills inch forward to sixth overall
At the start of the season, Bleacher Report had the Bills the lowest among these power rankings as they were just outside the Top 10. However, last week they moved up to seventh and this week’s edition has them one spot higher at sixth.
"Next week’s home tilt with the 2-0 Los Angeles Rams will be Buffalo’s biggest test of the young season. But through two weeks, there’s no denying that Allen and the Bills offense have been impressive."
Certainly, there are some that have some skepticism about the Bills start due to the opponents they have played. However, last year the Buffalo Bills faced two subpar teams in the Jets and Giants but did not look nearly as dominant. As they note, this week’s game against the Rams is going to be huge and could put any additional questions to rest.
CBS Sports: Buffalo Bills crack the Top 5
In the final power ranking, CBS Sports is the only one that has the Buffalo Bills in the Top 5, entering at fifth.
"The defense gave up some big plays, but they were without two top linebackers. But Josh Allen has to love having Stefon Diggs to throw the football to this season."
If there is one concern, Pete Prisco nails it and that is the play of the defense so far. In the game against the Miami Dolphins, they struggled to stop the Dolphins’ passing attack and specifically Mike Gesicki. The Dolphins tight end had 130 receiving yards and a touchdown against the Bills.
It isn’t time to sound the alarms quite yet because they were with Tremaine Edmunds and Matt Milano for this game. However, it is worth watching especially if both linebackers are out and a matchup with tight end Tyler Higbee this Sunday.
