Byron Jones

As mentioned on the previous slide, cornerback Byron Jones was the Miami Dolphins big free agency prize. They add him to a secondary with Xavien Howard and now give them two top tier cornerbacks.

The early returns were certainly positive as the Patriots weren’t able to really get much going through the air and Cam Newton only threw for 155 passing yards. Jones was targeted four times in that game and did give up three receptions, however, it was for a total of only 21 yards.

It will be interesting to see how the Dolphins elect to defend the Buffalo Bills wide receivers and if Jones follows Stefon Diggs or if they just keep him on one side of the field. The Dolphins tend to operate more in man to man coverage so it would make sense to see Jones follow Diggs but it will be important for Josh Allen to ensure he knows where Jones is prior to the snap.

The battles on the outside between the Buffalo Bills wide receivers and Miami Dolphins cornerbacks are going to be really fun to watch and the ones who win could be the deciding factor in Sunday’s game.
