These are six players that the Buffalo Bills released on Saturday but should try to add to their practice squad if they clear waivers.

The Buffalo Bills had to cut their roster down to 53 players on Saturday and for the most part, these are going to be the key players that will be on the field every week for the Bills.

However, there is also the practice squad, which in the past has typically been reserved for younger or players who need more time to develop. This year though the practice squad could be even more important due to the pandemic. The Buffalo Bills may at times this year be forced to rely on players on the practice squad to be active on game day and play some snaps.

This year, the NFL and NFLPA, has agreed to expand the practice squad to 16 players and the front office can begin building out their practice squad today. These are six players that are likely to be added by the Buffalo Bills if they clear waivers.

Christian Wade

The first player on this list is almost a guarantee because the Buffalo Bills get an exemption for Christian Wade if they add him that allows the team to expand their practice squad to 17 players.

Wade joined the Buffalo Bills last year as part of the NFL’s International Player Pathway Program which assigns players to certain teams every year. One of the benefits of the program is that NFL teams can keep their player on the practice squad for their first two years as an extra player so long as they commit to not calling him up the active roster.

Christian Wade became a fan favorite last preseason with some explosive plays however he is not only learning a new position but a new sport. The Buffalo Bills would be wise to take advantage of the exemption for one more year with an eye to him potentially contributing in 2021.
