Buffalo Bills: 3 players who surprisingly made the 53-man roster
Isaiah McKenzie
This is not to say that Isaiah McKenzie is a bad player, and when ranking the top 53 players on the Buffalo Bills roster, McKenzie is certainly in that group. The reason it is surprising is that do the Buffalo Bills need McKenzie as a sixth wide receiver, especially considering Andre Roberts is expected to return according to reports.
McKenzie played a substantial role in their offense last year, being on the field for 42% of their snaps. He finished with career highs in receptions (27), receiving yards (254) as well as his first receiving touchdown.
However, the Bills significantly improved the position this offseason by trading for Stefon Diggs and drafting Gabriel Davis and Isaiah Hodgins. The question is what does McKenzie bring to the team that these new additions aren’t able to add?
It was surprising to see the team potentially enter the 2020 season with seven wide receivers but only five cornerbacks, a position that already has had its fair share of injuries. There is no question that Isaiah McKenzie is good enough to be on the 53-man roster but based on the breakdown of the roster and the depth at wide receiver, this roster spot could have been better utilized elsewhere.
