Buffalo Bills, Tre’Davious White reportedly agree on four-year extension
According to reports, the Buffalo Bills and Tre’Davious White agreed on a four-year contract extension.
One of the biggest storylines this offseason was whether or not the Buffalo Bills were able to extend some of their key players who were nearing the end of their contracts.
Last month, the Buffalo Bills were able to agree to a four-year deal with left tackle Dion Dawkins and it appears Tre’Davious White is the next player to reach an extension, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Jeremy Fowler.
The 2017 NFL Draft was Sean McDermott’s first as head coach of the Buffalo Bills and while it is often remembered as the one the Bills traded their pick to the Kansas City Chiefs so they could select Patrick Mahomes, it also saw them select key players. One of those key pieces was Tre’Davious White, who the Bills selected 27th overall in the first round.
White stepped in almost immediately as a starting corner and was essentially expected to replace Stephon Gilmore, who departed in free agency that offseason. After a good rookie season and a bit of a down year in 2018, this past season was one that he truly broke out for the Buffalo Bills.
He would finish the year with six interceptions, which was tied for the league lead and earned a trip to the Pro Bowl as well as a first-team All-Pro selection.
While dollar amounts have not been released, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport tweeted that he will become one of the highest-paid at his position.
According to Spotrac, the top average salary at the position is currently Darius Slay at $16,683,333 but there are six cornerbacks at $14 million or higher. This is likely the range where Tre’Davious White’s new deal will land.
While this is a costly move, it is one that the Buffalo Bills had to make. Their defense has ranked near the top of the league against the pass recently and Tre’Davious White is a big part of that. He will now remain in Buffalo for the long term as their number one shutdown corner.
