Darryl Johnson

The final player on the bubble is last year’s seventh round draft pick Darryl Johnson, who appears to be in a battle with Mike Love and Bryan Cox Jr. The trouble is that with no preseason games, these are based off media reports and there has been much more chatter about Mike Love and Bryan Cox Jr. and not as much about Darryl Johnson.

As for Darryl Johnson, he was a key part of the defensive end rotation early in his rookie season last year. Over the first seven games of the year, he played at least 25% of the defensive snaps in six of those seven games.

However, from Week 8 to Week 16 the coaching staff moved away from Johnson and he didn’t play more than five snaps in a single game during that stretch. It certainly remains to be seen what improvements Darryl Johnson made over the offseason but considering some of the other defensive ends are being mentioned, this means Darryl Johnson could have some ground to make up over the next week.
