Who replaces Star Lotulelei?

The Buffalo Bills found out at the beginning of training camp that starting defensive tackle Star Lotulelei decided to opt out of the upcoming season. While he may not have filled up the box score, he was a pivotal part of this defense in the interior of that line.

Fortunately, the Buffalo Bills will have plenty of options to replace Lotulelei. Last week, Leslie Frazier also was asked about the absence of Star Lotulelei and how to replace him. He said the important part is to get a rotation together and find out who the best player is.

Some of the players he did mention that could possibly be included in this rotation is Quinton Jefferson, Vernon Butler and Harrison Phillips.

The wildcard is certainly Harrison Phillips, who is coming off an ACL injury last year. Prior to the injury, Phillips was creating a bigger role in this defense and looked to be on his way to surpassing Star Lotulelei. If Phillips is fully recovered, he should be the favorite to be the starter.
