Number 4: Linebacker

The depth of the linebacker position, and whether they move further up or down these rankings, really hinges on the performance of Vosean Joseph. The fifth round pick from last year could in line to replace Lorenzo Alexander, and if he wins the starting job, the depth at the position may not be much of an issue.

The reason it wouldn’t be an issue is because of the addition of A.J. Klein. The former Carolina Panthers and New Orlean Saints linebacker knows this defense well from his time playing for Sean McDermott. When both were in Carolina, Klein was the primary backup across all three positions and knows the responsibilities of each.

If Joseph wins the starting job, then Klein can fall into that backup role. However, if Klein becomes the starter at weakside and then is asked to replace either Tremaine Edmunds or Matt Milano, the linebacker group as a whole drops due to Joseph having to step in at weakside and Klein sliding over.

Due to these questions, the linebacker position comes in at number four on this list.
