Ranking the Buffalo Bills QB-WR duo in the AFC East

Number 3: New England Patriots

At one time, Cam Newton was considered one of the best quarterbacks in the league and Julian Edelman regularly was near the top of the league in receptions. Newton is the only player in these rankings to win an MVP and in terms of career stats, Edelman is far and away the highest among the running backs.

However, these are two players who seem to be at the tail end of their careers and are hoping to have one, or two, more good years in their career. In addition both have had to miss time in recent years due to injury.

The other concern, and why they are number three, is that the two players strengths don’t necessarily align. One of the struggles in Cam Newton’s career has been his accuracy in the short passing game and Edelman doesn’t have the speed to get over the top to highlight Newton’s deep ball.

Now a case can be made that Newton has not had a slot receiver like Edelman, who does an excellent job of getting open on these quick routes. It is hard to miss Edelman with the space he creates with his route running.

It remains to be seen how these two come together in this Patriots offense but right now there are just too many questions to move them any higher.
