Round 2, 52nd Overall: Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah (LB), Notre Dame

The Buffalo Bills gets their “Buffalo Nickel” in Owusu-Koramoah, the athletically gifted linebacker from Notre Dame. Hopefully he can fill the Shaq Thompson role which McDermott used during his time with the Carolina Panthers.

Owusu-Koramoah spent his freshman season on the scout team and only appeared in two games during his sophomore season, so he came into his junior season new to the college game. The athletically gifted linebacker didn’t look out of place, accumulating 80 tackles, 13.5 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks and 4 passes defended. Amazing production for a player who didn’t have a role on the team during his first two seasons.

At 6’1″, 216 pounds Owusu-Koramoah is an undersized linebacker, who transitioned from safety in his high school days so he has experience in coverage. If he can put on another 15 pounds or so he could be an ideal size for being a big nickel, coverage linebacker.

Owusu-Koramoah shows great pursuit to the ball carrier and does a good job wrapping up on tackles, he makes a flashy play in this game versus Georgia:

Kyle Crabbs also cites how Owusu-Koramoah played a lot of man coverage versus tight ends in the slot:

"Was charged quite often with playing man coverage and playing turn & run against TEs in the slot. Appreciate his short area explosiveness and twitch to trigger and beat blockers to the spot out in space."

Efficient in the slot, the Notre Dame linebacker can cover tight ends and would be able to deal with big slots in the NFL which is ideal for the Buffalo Nickel. His quick trigger also helps his ability to be a great overhang defender, which could be helpful in defending the new age of quarterbacks on read-option, like Lamar Jackson.

His ability to evade blocks makes him great at creating tackles for loss.
