Predicting the Bills 2020 Depth Chart: Cornerback
By Daniel Bruce
Cut: E.J. Gaines
An interesting case, Gaines was great in his lone season in Buffalo in 2017, but has been injured most of the last two seasons. After his stellar 2017 campaign, Gaines left for Cleveland but struggled in a season where he only played in 6 games.
Signed with the Bills last season, Gaines would suffer an injury during training camp and reach an injury settlement before the start of the season.
If Gaines can avoid injury, he could rekindle some of the magic from 2017. He could be good enough to even start for Buffalo, but with so much uncertainty surrounding him, it appears he has his work cut out for him.
Practice Squad: Cam Lewis
Signed out of the University of Buffalo as an undrafted free agent, Lewis spent last season on the Bills practice squad. At just 5’9″ Lewis is undersized and doesn’t fit the size profile the Bills like for their cornerbacks.
Signed to a reserve/futures contract at the end of the 2019 season, Lewis will look to make the practice squad.
Practice Squad/Cut: Ike Brown
The undrafted free agent out of Florida International comes into camp looking to gain an opportunity on the practice squad. However, he was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 injured list, which doesn’t help his chances in a year that most undrafted free agents appear to be a longshot
