Coaching Staff Changes

In addition to the personnel changes that likely would have happened with the Bills having Russell Wilson, it also means that there likely wouldn’t have been as many coaching changes since 2012. The 2012 season was Chan Gailey’s last as head coach and he was entering the year on the hot seat. It is hard to imagine he would have went with a rookie quarterback with his job on the line.

This scenario would have likely meant that the Buffalo Bills would have still hired Doug Marrone after that season. However, with a quarterback like Wilson he may not used his “opt-out” clause in his contract after the 2014 season.

If he doesn’t opt out, then the Buffalo Bills would not have hired Rex Ryan prior to the 2015 season and this potentially also means that the team may not have hired Sean McDermott in 2017.

While the Seahawks have kept Pete Carroll as their head coach, it is certainly the exception and the not the norm, even when team’s have franchise quarterbacks.

It is hard to imagine that the Buffalo Bills select Russell Wilson and would end up having the same level of success as the Seahawks. There is no question that this franchise would have looked vastly different over the past eight years and they undoubtedly would have been better, it is just a matter of how much better.
