4. Bills D/ST

The next fantasy football option is the Buffalo Bills defense and special teams. It isn’t often that a defense is highlighted as a team’s top fantasy option, but the Bills defense has been the anchor of this team since Sean McDermott’s arrival in Buffalo. In 2019, the Bills finished as the 6th best fantasy scoring defense/special teams in the league, according to ESPN Standard Scoring.

Surprisingly, the Bills managed to finish in the six spot with only one defensive touchdown. The Buffalo defense was not a flashy fantasy option, but they did it the old fashioned way by finishing 2nd in points allowed and 3rd in yards allowed. Additionally, the Bills finished in the upper-middle tier of the league in three categories, interceptions, fumble recoveries, and sacks. However, if a defense isn’t allowing opposing offenses to gain yards or score consistently all season, they will finish the season towards the top of the league in fantasy output and the Bills are a prime example of this. Although the Bills don’t lead the league in turnover statistics, the combination of average turnover production and above average yards/points allowed makes for a consistent fantasy football defense option.

The core of the 2019 Buffalo Bills defense is still in place, and it only got better this off-season with the free agent signings made by General Manager Brandon Beane. By drafting A.J. Epenesa as well as signing various other defensive linemen in free agency, the Bills will be able to shuffle around their defensive line and keep fresh legs in the game.

On top of that, they added depth to their secondary by signing both Josh Norman and E.J. Gaines, as well as drafting cornerback Dane Jackson in the 7th round. Although picking a defense in fantasy football isn’t the most exciting selection, fantasy owners will be satisfied with the consistent production from this improved Buffalo defense.
