Position battle at cornerback

One of the biggest training camp battles for the Buffalo Bills is going to be at cornerback opposite Tre’Davious White. The Bills did bring back last year’s starter Levi Wallace, but signed free agents Josh Norman and E.J. Gaines, for competition. While Norman generated the headlines, it is Gaines who could end up being the surprise starter for the Bills this year.

This is not the typical position battle because all three players have experience in this defense. The returning starter Levi Wallace has been in the rotation the past two years, E.J. Gaines was the starter in 2017 and Josh Norman knows this scheme well from his time in Carolina when Sean McDermott was defensive coordinator. The playbook won’t be the biggest hurdle for these players.

This position battle was likely going to be decided during preseason and how these three looked during live-game action. However, if the preseason is shortened to two games, this means each player has seen their potential snaps to impress the coaching staff cut in half. This should benefit Wallace, as he has been the starter, but is going to be a depth chart battle worth watching.
