Buffalo Bills: Ranking the best departed players in McDermott-Beane era

2. Jordan Phillips

The next player on this list was another player that the Buffalo Bills saw leave the organization this offseason and that was defensive tackle Jordan Phillips. The Bills added Phillips without much fanfare as he was waived by the Miami Dolphins during the 2018 season.

That certainly changed over the next year and half with the Bills. He would go on to play 12 games his first year with the team and finished with 19 tackles, three passes defended but no sacks.

This past season though he broke out in a big way with 31 tackles, 13 tackles for a loss and a team leading 9.5 sacks. He was able to parlay that into a long-term deal with the Arizona Cardinals this offseason.

While the Bills likely didn’t want to lose Jordan Phillips, this was likely a decision that was decided on the business side of the league. Phillips was a key piece of the Buffalo Bills defense last year but with the depth and talent they have, its hard to justify to the salary that Phillips commanded.
