Buffalo Bills: Ranking the running backs in the AFC East
By Rob Spehar
4. Buffalo Bills: Devin Singletary and Zack Moss
There are two major factors that keep the Buffalo Bills at number 4 on this list. Devin Singletary is in his second year and Zack Moss is a rookie. The years of experience and accomplishments between them is minimal compared to the others on this list.
T.J. Yeldon is an added bonus to this group, but it is safe to say that it will be Singletary and Moss taking majority of the snaps in 2020. To take running backs in back to back drafts and not use them would be mind boggling. These two have a ridiculous amount of upside and Brian Daboll has two versatile toys to play with in his offense at the running back position with a solid 1-2 punch for years to come.
Devin Singletary made a name for himself last season. He was selected by the Buffalo Bills with the 74th pick overall in the 2019 NFL Draft out of Florida Atlantic University. In his short career, he put up numbers that were very impressive for a rookie even though he missed four games due to a hamstring injury. But when he came back, he lit up the league with his play. He finished his rookie year carrying the ball 151 times for 775 yards and 2 touchdowns while averaging a staggering 5.1 yards per carry. That is astonishing for a rookie in only 12 games. Expect Singletary to make a huge leap in his second year behind a revamped offensive line.
Zack Moss was selected in the third round, 86th overall, by the Bills in the 2020 NFL Draft out of Utah. There is a lot to be excited about this kid considering what he did while playing for the Utes. He was eligible to enter for the 2019 draft, but he chose to return for his senior year. Because of that, he ended up setting numerous records. Some of those aforementioned records he holds are 712 total carries, 4,067 total rushing yards, and 38 rushing touchdowns. As a senior, he was averaging nearly 110 yards a game while scoring 15 touchdowns. With Moss’ pass catching skills out of the backfield to mix with his hard running style will make him the perfect compliment for Devin Singletary.
The lack of experience is the only reason that the Bills are number 4 on this list. But if these guys can keep performing at a high level, the benefits are endless. The workload for these running backs remains to be seen because of quarterback Josh Allen’s rushing ability and the addition of wide receiver Stefon Diggs. But to have the wide receivers that the Buffalo Bills have to go along with these young backs will most surely create a more balanced and dangerous offense to wreak havoc on opposing defenses.
