Buffalo Bills: Ranking the quarterbacks in the AFC East entering 2020
By Rob Spehar
4. Jarrett Stidham
It is the dawning of a new era in Foxborough. Tom Brady is gone and now the reigns have been handed to a 2019 fourth round pick out of Auburn named Jarrett Stidham. Well, at least that’s what we media folk believe. Bill Belichick is holding his cards close to the chest on this one.
New England did not draft a QB and there is still Cam Newton floating around as a free agent. So who knows what the Patriots brass are thinking. If history with the Patriots has taught us anything, we should not be surprised if something happens soon. But for now, Stidham is the front runner for the starting gig and for that, he starts our list at number four.
Not much can be said about Stidham because he hasn’t started a regular season game yet. In his rookie year, he threw only 4 passes during regular season play. But from what most have seen in his preseason play, there are some good things to take away from his game. In four preseason games, he completed 67.8% of his passes throwing for 731 yards, four touchdowns versus one interception and finished with a QB rating of 102.6. That is something to build on for sure.
Stidham has some big shoes to fill though. If he is nervous though, he can always look towards a couple of other QB’s for success. Look at Aaron Rodgers who followed Brett Favre and Steve Young who followed Joe Montana. Those are some big names who went on to accomplish big things. Stidham can be successful with the right tools and coaching. He has both. We just have to wait and see what he does with them.
