Buffalo Bills: 3 biggest trap games for the upcoming season
By Rob Spehar
Week 7 at N.Y. Jets
The next trap game comes in Week 7 during a divisional road game in East Rutherford against the Jets. There will be 10 days in between games that the Bills will play after their game with the Chiefs on Thursday night. Looking at the schedule, the Patriots will be coming to town in Week 8 for their first matchup of the season and for the first time in 19 years without Tom Brady.
Last season, the Bills were 1-1 against the Jets taking the opening game of the season on the road with a come from behind victory, 17-16. This year, the Bills open their season against the Jets again, but this time it will be in the confines of New Era Field. The second game came in Week 17 with the Jets winning 13-6 in a game that saw the Bills rest their starters in preparation for the playoffs. So it is hard to gauge how the battle of the 2018 QB draftees, Josh Allen and Sam Darnold, can play head to head with something at stake. This second game will be near mid season with more on the line, so it should be fun to watch this time around.
This is dangerous territory for the Buffalo Bills, especially when you look at this stretch of games. It will be back to back division games and they will be in the middle of a stretch that sees them facing 4 out of 5 teams that were in the playoffs last season. That is no easy feat. No wonder they are tied for the fifth hardest schedule.
You cannot look past these Jets because they improved in the offseason, especially in the draft. They grabbed speedy wide receiver Denzel Mims out of Baylor and the mountain of an offensive tackle named Mekhi Becton out of Louisville. I say mountain because the guy is 6’7” and 364 lbs! That is music to Le’Veon Bell’s ears. The Jets running game got a huge boost with that pick.
So the thought of Belichick and the Patriots coming to Buffalo can play mind games on the players psyche. Players and fans will be salivating at the thought of a possible victory with lots to prove, but they have to get past Adam Gase and the Jets first.
