In a recent interview, Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott said he is looking for quarterback Josh Allen to take that next step in his development as the team’s franchise quarterback.

This past week, Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott joined Adam Schein on Mad Dog Radio and was asked about Josh Allen. McDermott said about his franchise quarterback that there are things that he needs to develop and “most times how the quarterback goes, is how the team goes.”

This is not necessarily a surprise as the quarterback is the most important position on the football field. There was certainly plenty of positives that Allen showed last season, especially in the final three quarters of the season.

The season totals for Allen were 58.8% completion percentage, which was a six percent jump from the previous year, 3,089 passing yards, 29 total touchdowns and nine interceptions. However, a majority of these mistakes took place in the first four games of the year and over the final 12 games, Allen had seven games with a completion percentage of 60% or higher, 17 passing touchdowns and only three interceptions.

It was also interesting to hear that Sean McDermott mentioned that this is a three or four year process. Josh Allen is entering his third season so even if he doesn’t make a significant jump this year, it sounds like the organization is committed to him through at least next season.

The biggest thing that McDermott praised Allen for is his ability to just be a great teammate. This is something that is regularly coming from One Bills Drive from both the front office and the coaching staff but also the players.

Mitch Morse, the Bills starting center, recently described what is was like playing with Josh Allen and there is just no denying that this players like playing with Josh Allen. There is no denying that is a big component of being a leader in the locker room.
