Buffalo Bills should consider adding Jadeveon Clowney after NFL Draft

The NFL Draft has come and gone but that doesn’t mean the Buffalo Bills shouldn’t add any more players and one of the top free agents is still available that could help this team.
For any available free agents Monday comes with good news. At 4 p.m. ET, the deadline ends in which free agents count against the compensatory picks formula. As the deadline passes that means teams will be more willing to offer contracts to these players. One of those is Jadeveon Clowney, the premier pass rusher entering the free agency period. Now could be the time for the Bills to move for his services.
Prior to the off-season it was rumored that Clowney was seeking a long-term deal around $20 million per season. However, a tweet by ESPN’s Dianna Russini on April 1st suggested that number has been lowered to $17-18 million.
As we continue to watch the market for Jadeveon Clowney, I am told by several sources the asking price has been moved off that $20mil+ number and it’s closer to $17-18mil. This could spark more interest. Also told Titans and Seahawks are still “interested”

Another tweet on April 9th by ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler indicted a willingness by Clowney to accept a one to two-year deal to “try and get his sack numbers up” while hitting the market again in an attempt to land the big mega deal he seeks.

Both of these tweets combined with the compensatory period ending could be enough to convince to Bills to make a move. According to Spotrac, the Buffalo Bills have $20 million dollars remaining on this years’ cap. The team will need to set aside $4 million for the 2020 draft class and another $4 million for in-season roster additions. That’ll leave the Bills with $12 million, but cutting Trent Murphy would save $8 million dollars.
If the team has no desire to roll unused cap into the 2021 season then making a move for Clowney should now be of top priority. General manager Brandon Beane knows the team is on the cusp of seriously contending for a Super Bowl which was backed up by trading for Stefon Diggs. The Bills should take advantage of a one-year deal while keeping future plans intact.
