Buffalo Bills 2020 NFL Draft: Quick reaction grade for Gabriel Davis
The Buffalo Bills once again didn’t trade but used their original fourth round pick to select wide receiver Gabriel Davis out of University of Central Florida.
The Buffalo Bills made the big splash earlier this offseason at wide receiver with the trade for Stefon Diggs. This didn’t stop Brandon Beane from going back to the position in the fourth round with the selection of Gabriel Davis.
In terms of physical attributes, Davis fills a big need for the Bills at the position as they were still lacking size. This is something that Davis certainly has at 6’3″ and 212 pounds but the coaching staff is going to need to be patient with him as he develops as a receiver.
As the scouting report on The Draft Network notes, Davis will need to develop more of a route tree but he does have good straight line speed so he could be a target for Josh Allen down the sideline. One positive they note, and this may be the reason the Buffalo Bills picked him, is his willingness to block. This can translate to him helping in the run game but also being a weapon on special teams.
Gabriel Davis showed improvement each season while at UCF and had a breakout season this past year with 1,241 receiving yards with 12 touchdowns and an impressive 17.4 yards per catch.

The fact that the Bills elected to go with a developmental wide receiver while there was players like Bryce Hall, who could compete this year for a starting job, pulls this grade down. However, the selection fills a need and the Bills will need to coach him up to reach his full potential.
