The Buffalo Bills went back to the Carolina Panthers’ well and signed Daryl Williams. This is our grade for the team adding the veteran offensive tackle.
The Buffalo Bills spent most of their money on the defensive side of the ball this free agency with signings of Josh Norman, Vernon Butler, Quinton Jefferson and Mario Addison to name a few. However, Brandon Beane made a move on the offensive side of the ball after the initial wave of signings that could pay the biggest dividends.
The Buffalo Bills went back to their Carolina Panthers’ connection and signed offensive tackle Daryl Williams to a one-year deal.
Daryl Williams was a fourth round pick by the Panthers in 2015 and quickly rose through the depth chart. He became a fixture at right tackle on the Panthers’ offensive line and had a breakout year in 2017, when he was named to second-team All-Pro.
The past two seasons though have been a bit of a struggle as he suffered a knee injury during training camp in 2018, that he re-aggravated in the first week of the season. This ended up costing him the remainder of the season.
Williams was a free agent last offseason and elected to return to Carolina on a one-year deal. This past season was an interesting one as he played every position on the offensive line except center due to the Panthers’ needs.
When evaluating the Buffalo Bills’ signings we look at three key areas: Team Need, Team Fit, Contract and compile those grades for a final grade. This is how we grade the Bills addition of Daryl Williams.
