The Buffalo Bills made one big splash on offense this week with the agreed upon trade for Stefon Diggs. Are they heading for another?
This has been an exciting week for Buffalo Bills fans as Brandon Beane and this front office has been very busy. The news of the agreed upon trade for Stefon Diggs will dominate the headlines but agreeing to deals with players like Mario Addison, A.J. Klein, Vernon Butler and Quinton Jefferson should have big impacts in 2020.
However, it appears the front office isn’t done quite yet and they could be ramping up to make another big splash. According to Matt Parrino of NYup.com, representative for Melvin Gordon and the Bills front office have spoken and there is “mutual interest.”
"The Buffalo Bills are interested in free agent running back Melvin Gordon, a source told NYUP on Thursday.Gordon’s representatives have spoken to the Bills about the 26-year-old running back joining forces with Devin Singletary in the Buffalo backfield."
This would be a huge boost for this offense and just another playmaker at the disposal of Josh Allen and offensive coordinator Brian Daboll.
Melvin Gordon was a first round pick by the Los Angeles Chargers and has been a touchdown machine for them over the last four seasons with 47 total touchdowns. He has struggled at times but at only 26 years of age should still have plenty of football left.
While the Bills do have Devin Singletary on the roster, who had a great rookie season for this team, a running back by committee could be the better way to go in 2020. Melvin Gordon was one running back we identified that would fit perfectly if the team went this direction.
He has shown over the course of his career that he can remain effective while almost splitting the workload 50/50.
It would also be a good way to keep Singletary fresh and healthy over the course of the season. It should allow him to keep that explosive, big play ability that he showed in his first year in the league.
The Buffalo Bills have shown they are going to be aggressive this offseason. Do they have one more move up their sleeve?
