Report: Buffalo Bills re-sign Levi Wallace, Robert Foster
According to a report, the Buffalo Bills have re-signed cornerback Levi Wallace and wide receiver Robert Foster.
One day after it was reported that the Buffalo Bills would be signing cornerback Josh Norman, ESPN’s Field Yates is reporting that the team is re-signing cornerback Levi Wallace and wide receiver Robert Foster.
Both of these players were exclusive rights free agents so it isn’t a surprise that the Bills made these moves. An exclusive rights free agent is any player who has two or less years of experience and they may only negotiate with their current team. For an NFL team to keep these rights, they have to offer a one-year deal, at the league minimum.
The deal with Levi Wallace comes as no surprise as he has been a starter at cornerback on this defense at times over the past two seasons. Wallace joined the Bills as an undrafted free agent prior to the 2018 season and worked his way into a starting role. He actually finished the season as the highest graded rookie corner according to Pro Football Focus.
This past season wasn’t as strong for Wallace and he saw his playing time slip over the course of the year to Kevin Johnson. Whether Levi Wallace returns as the starter in 2020 for the Bills or is just depth, this is a great deal for the Bills to find a player with this experience at this salary.
In regards to the signing of Robert Foster it makes sense but is a little surprising. He had a tremendous finish to his rookie season in 2018 with 27 receptions, 541 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
He entered this past season expected to have a major role in this offense based on that strong finish. However, he struggled to get on the field consistently and was surpassed by players like Isaiah McKenzie and Duke Williams. He finished this past season with three receptions for 18 yards.
At this point, while the Bills brought back Robert Foster, depending on what other moves they make, it would be a surprise if he is on the 53-man roster come Week 1 of the 2020 season.
