Buffalo Bills: Analyst names Bills as potential home for Amari Cooper
There is no question that the top free agent wide receiver this offseason is Amari Cooper. One NFL.com analyst believes the Buffalo Bills is a potential landing spot for the former Pro Bowl wide receiver.
It is certainly easy to draw the connection between the Buffalo Bills and Amari Cooper. The Bills need a top tier wide receiver for this offense and have plenty of cap space to sign Cooper to a lucrative deal.
This is why it isn’t surprising to see the Bills named as one of five teams that could be a potential landing spot for Cooper, according to David Carr of NFL.com.
Carr wrote about the match of Cooper and the Bills:
"3) BUFFALO BILLS: The Bills are one receiver away from having one of the top offenses in the league, especially after Josh Allen made the leap in Year 2. John Brown can take the top off the defense, Cole Beasley is a solid slot guy and Cooper would give Allen a playmaker who can win one-on-one situations and clear out the box for the run game."
The logic is certainly sound and the Buffalo Bills haven’t had a top wide receiver since the days of Eric Moulds. They have certainly tried over the years with players like Terrell Owens and Sammy Watkins, however these players never seemed to pan out in Buffalo.
If the Bills’ front office was able to add a player like Amari Cooper it would dramatically change this offense, as Carr notes. The 25-year old receiver is coming off his best season of his career with 1,189 receiving yards and eight touchdowns.
He should also help fast track the development of Josh Allen, who will be entering his third year in the league. This past season he took significant steps forward with the additions of John Brown and Cole Beasley, but both these players fill more of a complimentary role versus being the focal point of the passing game.
This is why it would not be surprising to see the Buffalo Bills make a run at Amari Cooper and get that top tier pass catcher for this offense.
