Lee Smith

2020 Cap Hit: $3,250,000

Dead Cap: $1,000,000

Cap Savings: $2,250,000

Similar to the running back position, the Buffalo Bills should feel more confident about the way some of their rookies stepped up this past season at tight end. This could result in the team cutting some veterans to free up not only cap space, but also time for their younger players.

Lee Smith is a specialist at the tight end position and essentially has a roster spot due to his blocking ability. He is not a player expected to contribute in the passing game, even though he did have four receptions for 31 yards and one touchdown this past season.

While a case could be made to keep Smith on the roster, especially if the Bills try to lean on their run game more in 2020, it could also make sense to cut him based on the cap savings with a low dead cap figure.
