Bills offensive coordinator, Brian Daboll, interviewing with Browns

The Buffalo Bills are preparing for a playoff game on Saturday but Brian Daboll could be looking forward to an interview with the Cleveland Browns

This is something that happens often when a team is succesful. The Buffalo Bills just finished a 10-6 campaign and are preparing for the playoffs.

Their first game is Saturday against the Houston Texans as they hope to make a run in the AFC. With all their focus on that game, other teams with job openings are looking at Buffalo’s coaching staff.

Case in point, the Cleveland Browns — who just fired Freddie Kitchens after one season — have requested permission to interview offensive coordinator Brian Daboll for their vacancy.

For the Browns, Daboll isn’t exactly an unknown. He was with the team back in 2009 and 2010 as the offensive coordinator under Eric Mangini. During that tenure, things weren’t exactly rosy and that’s led to some fans expressing displeasure with the front office for wanting to speak with Daboll.

While there were examples of him being overly critical to the players — such as Colt McCoy who he ripped on more than one occasion — Daboll has seemed to grow a lot as a coach since then.

After his two seasons in Cleveland, Daboll went on to work with teams such as the New England Patriots and Alabama Crimson Tide. Learning from Bill Belichick and Nick Saban is never a bad thing. It also allowed him the opportunity to land his current job in Buffalo.

While Buffalo’s offense has had their problems, Daboll has done good work with Josh Allen and has made the most out of a unit that lacks big-time playmakers.

He’s not considered a frontrunner in Cleveland but there’s a chance this won’t be the final head coaching interview for the 44-year-old assistant.
