The Buffalo Bills suffered their first loss of the season in a mistake filled game by a final score of 16-10 to the New England Patriots.

This was a matchup of two undefeated teams when the New England Patriots traveled to New Era Field to face the Buffalo Bills. This game was supposed to be a bit of a measuring stick for the Bills for just how close they are to the top tier of the NFL after starting the year with three straight wins.

Unfortunately for this team, it was a mistake filled game that included a blocked punt by the Patriots for a touchdown as well as four interceptions thrown by the Bills’ quarterbacks.

The amazing part was that even with all the mistakes, the Bills were able to hang around thanks to an impressive performance by their defense. The Bills held Tom Brady to 18-39 for 150 yards with one interception and no touchdowns. The Patriots offense had only 225 total yards and averaged only 3.8 yards per play.

There is no question that this was a statement game for this defense but the offense struggled to find any momentum, outside of a stretch to start the third quarter. The Bills opened the second half with a nine play drive that went 75 yards and was capped off by a quarterback sneak by Josh Allen. This was the first offensive touchdown that the Patriots allowed this season.

Unfortunately for the Bills, they will likely leave this game with a feeling of ‘What if?’ as on the second play of the fourth quarter, Josh Allen suffered a helmet to helmet hit that forced him to miss the rest of the game. While Matt Barkley did make some nice throws, he is not the athlete that Josh Allen is.

While this was the sixth straight win for the New England Patriots over the Buffalo Bills, there certainly was a different feel. The fact that the Bills made as many mistakes as they did, that they lost their starting quarterback for the final quarter and still kept the game within reach thanks to a dominant performance of their defense, speaks to just how far this team has come.
