Buffalo Bills: 4 Players with the most to prove in 2019
Dion Dawkins
The Buffalo Bills almost completely overhauled the offensive line this offseason. The Bills had one of the worst offensive lines last year but brought in a lot of talent this offseason that should help turn this group around.
The only starter from last year’s line that is still on the team is left tackle Dion Dawkins. The Bills drafted Dawkins in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft and stepped into a starting role almost immediately, starting 11 games at left tackle in 2017.
He played well enough that the front office elected to trade former starter Cordy Glenn to the Cincinnati Bengals and made Dawkins their future left tackle. However, the 2018 season did not go well for Dawkins and he wasn’t that consistent force you need from the left tackle position.
After the 2018 season, Sean McDermott had this to say about Dawkins:
"“There were some moments that I thought Dion improved this year from what he was a year ago,” Bills coach Sean McDermott said at his season-ending press conference. “I thought as a whole, (he was) too inconsistent, starting with penalties. We talked about that, and this will be an important offseason for Dion.”"
Last year, the Bills showed confidence in Dawkins by trading away Cordy Glenn. This year, the Bills showed they still believe in the third year player by him being the only starter they retained from last season. This is the year Dawkins needs to prove the front office right in putting their trust in him.
