The day before the final preseason game, the Buffalo Bills made two roster moves with an eye towards getting down to the league mandated 53 players.

The Buffalo Bills have one more preseason game, on Thursday night against the Minnesota Vikings, and on Wednesday were busy making roster moves. After extending kicker Stephen Hauschka with a two-year contract extension, the team also announced they had placed defensive end Mike Love on injured reserve and waived offensive linemen De’Ondre Wesley in an injury settlement.

Mike Love spent last year with the Bills after signing as an undrafted free agent after playing football at South Florida. He went on to spend most of the year on the team’s practice squad but did get brought up towards the end of the year. He played in three games for the Bills and finished with five tackles.

The defensive end had played in three games this preseason, also recording five tackles, but suffered a pectoral injury against the Detroit Lions, as Chris Brown notes. That injury was enough to cost him the season.

The Bills were likely going to have a tough decision this weekend at the position because the emergence of the rookie Darryl Johnson pushed players like Love, and Eddie Yarbrough, further down the depth chart.

As for De’Ondre Wesley, he has been on and off the Bills roster the past few seasons after entering the league as an undrafted free agent with the Baltimore Ravens. Last season, he spent some time with the Indianapolis Colts but was waived in the spring and claimed by the Bills.

Wesley has been dealing with a knee injury and after playing in the first two games this preseason, missed the game against the Lions. He was a long shot to make this roster and he likely would have played his last game for the Bills against the Minnesota Vikings.
