Running back

RB1: O.J. Simpson – 1975

Fantasy points: 362

As odd as some may find it, it isn’t O.J. Simpson‘s 1973, 2,003-yard season that takes the cake. Instead, it’s his 1975 season, in which he added an extra four rushing touchdowns, and 186 less rushing yards. The sole reason why the 1975 season ranks first is his outstanding 23 scrimmage touchdowns–11 more than in 1973–, and 426 receiving yards, the most of his career.

Simpson was on a tear in 1975; in that season, he had one of the best fantasy football seasons ever. He was an undefendable touchdown-making machine. Though he didn’t have as many rushing yards as in 1973, he set his career high for scrimmage yards and total touchdowns—one of the best seasons ever for a running back.

RB2: Thurman Thomas – 1992

Fantasy points: 283

Thurman Thomas ran away with the MVP award in 1991, but it was 1992 where he had his best fantasy football season. He was a dual-threat back long before they were commonplace in the NFL, as he produced mightily on the ground and through the air. Throughout his career and 1992, Thomas did it all.

In 1992, Thomas continued to show off his versatility, as he racked up a career-high 2,113 scrimmage yards, and 12 total touchdowns–the second most of his career. He ran for an impressive 1,487 yards, the most of his career, and 626 receiving yards, the second highest. Though Thomas didn’t repeat as MVP in 1992, his effect on the Bills and the NFL was profound.

RB3 (bench): LeSean McCoy – 2016

Fantasy points: 248

Injuries riddled LeSean McCoy‘s first year in Buffalo, but his second year was awe-inspiring. Shady looked the part of what the Bills expected, scoring 14 touchdowns while racking up 1,623 scrimmage yards. McCoy made it look effortless, earning a Pro-Bowl nod and the hearts of many fantasy football owners.

McCoy is the only current Bill on this list. His 2016 season is also the most recent. As it currently stands, the back has the opportunity to top his best year in Buffalo, as he’s still on the roster. However, with a bevy of new backs in-fold and his showing of signs of aging last season, 2016 will likely stay at his best fantasy year in Western New York.

RB4 (bench): Joe Cribbs – 1981

Fantasy points: 234

Joe Cribbs didn’t don a Bills jersey for very long, but he hit the ground running in Buffalo. To follow up his Pro-Bowl rookie season, Cribbs had one of the best seasons in team history. In 1981, he was Thurman Thomas before there was Thurman Thomas; acting as a threat in all facets of the game.

Cribbs ran for 1,097 yards and three touchdowns, but it wasn’t his running that helped pile on the fantasy points. Like Thomas, he was able to produce as a receiver, tallying 603 yards and seven touchdowns. Though he was turnover prone (28 fumbles his first two seasons), Cribbs was a star during his time in Buffalo.
