Buffalo Bills: 5 offensive players on the roster bubble

Marcus Murphy – RB
Like Croom, McKenzie, and Bodine before him, Marcus Murphy is a subject to the numbers game. He’s a solid running back, and the Bills got a good look at him last year — he started a game, played 11, and recorded 52 rushes for 250 yards and no touchdowns — but there’s a lot of talent in front of him on the depth chart.
Last year, Murphy was the third back behind LeSean McCoy and Chris Ivory, next year the same can’t be said. The Bills brought in Frank Gore, T.J. Yeldon, Christian Wade (NFL International) and Senorise Perry in free agency then drafted Devin Singletary in the third-round. Gore, Yeldon, and Singletary are considered to be locks; while Perry or Wade could sneak in due to their production — or in Wade’s case, potential — as special-teamers.
Murphy is a talented back. Though he’s just 5-foot-9 and 195-pounds, he’s seemingly able to avoid contacts with quickness and a hard-nosed mentality. But, with five new running backs on the roster alongside Shady, is it enough to earn another shot on the 53-man roster?

The end of the pre-season will answer that question, but the odds aren’t in Murphy’s favor. The Bills simply have too much talent already set ahead of him. He’ll need to turn heads in training camp and exhibition games. If he doesn’t do that, the Bills can release him and save $720 thousand, per Over The Cap.
