On the roster bubble: Dean Marlow
Dean Marlowe has been on-again-off-again for the Bills for the better part of a year. After a year out of football, he followed Sean McDermott from the Panthers to the Bills and has spent most of his time on the practice squad or on special teams. Last year, he played in two games, starting one, and recording five total tackles and a pass deflection.
The Bills drafting two safeties in the fifth-round in consecutive drafts could spell doom for Marlowe. With five safeties likely locked into the roster, Marlowe may finish the pre-season in a similar fashion to last year’s — he was cut by the team but did resign later on. The Bills would save $1.2 million in cap space if they release him, per Over The Cap.
Marlowe could return to the practice squad, but even then, his chances to make the roster again are slim. Last year he lost the fourth safety spot to a rookie Siran Neal, with Jaquan Johnson now in-fold, it’s hard to see where, or how Marlowe can fit in.
