5. Marcus Murphy

This is where it gets interesting, as unlike the previous two, Marcus Murphy has a real shot at making the 53-man roster as a back. In 2018, the Bills got a good look at him at the position. In a relief role, he ran the ball 52 times for 250 yards on a healthy 4.8 YPC average. Though he didn’t score a touchdown in his second season as a Bill, there is a bit of intrigue revolving around him.

BuffaLowDown’s very own Brandon Ray describes what he sees in Murphy on the gridiron, saying;

"Every time Murphy had the ball in his hands, production occurred whether it was on the ground or in the air. I was always excited to see No. 45 (now No. 22) in the backfield in the past two seasons."

Roy’s compliments shouldn’t come as a surprise. Though the back is just 5-foot-9 and 195-pounds, he’s seemingly able to avoid contacts with quickness and a hard-nosed mentality. But, with five new running backs on the roster, is it enough to earn another shot on the 53-man roster?

The end of an important pre-season will answer that question for Murphy. As it currently stands, he has an uphill battle to make the roster. But, with competition often comes motivation. If Murphy sees it the same way and exceeds expectations, the Bills could very well keep the 28-year-old as a reserve/special teamer.
