Buffalo Bills: Four three-round draft scenarios for the Bills
Trade Up
First Round – Pick No. 5
Quinnen Williams / Defensive Tackle / Alabama
TRADE: Tampa Bay receives No. 9, No. 40, 2020 third; Buffalo receives No. 5
This would be tough to swallow as we saw the Bills trade assets in a deep draft last year and miss out on building their roster and adding help on the offensive side of the ball. This is my least favorite scenario as Buffalo can add quality depth and starters with all of their picks. Forfeiting them to move up for a defensive tackle in a defensive tackle heavy draft doesn’t make a ton of sense to me.
Williams is arguably the best defensive player in the draft and would be a perfect fit as the pass rusher from the inside that McDermott covets. I continuously fear the Marcell Dareus 2.0 with Williams and moving up to take a defensive tackle from Alabama after we traded one away recently doesn’t sit well – especially with Williams only starting for one year.
This move doesn’t sit well with me, but I also don’t think it is very likely at all.
Third Round – Pick No. 74
Riley Ridley / Wide Receiver / Georgia
Another reason the move of trading up doesn’t make sense to me is the team would miss out on talent and filling another need. While this is a deep tight end and receiver class, you can find fringe day one talent in the second that will make big impacts. You severely limit yourself by trading your second.
With that being said, Buffalo can still add an offensive weapon in the third with Ridley. A fantastic route runner, Ridley would offer size and crisp routes on the outside for Josh Allen, as well as add depth to a unit that continues to evolve.
