There is a hot new coaching trend sweeping the NFL thanks to Sean McVay. The Buffalo Bills have a different type of style in town.

There is a clear trend taking over in the NFL and it involves finding the next Sean McVay.

Teams want that young offensive mind and we have seen evidence of that based on some of the hires made by teams in the past few days. Yet the Buffalo Bills aren’t a part of this trend.

Sean McDermott joined the Bills thanks to his expertise on the defensive side of the ball. He is only 44 years old though, so maybe he is a new brand of a young defensive mind.

If the Bills were looking for a new head coach right now, maybe they would be part of the trend. However, Brandon Beane and the entire organization is huge on culture. Having great schemes doesn’t always mean one is a great leader. Just look at how things turned out with Adam Gase in Miami.

One thing to remember about McVay and this new trend is that a lot of these new coaches are unproven. Teams are getting caught up in the hype and think it is the new recipe for success. That could be true with evidence provided soon. But it is still too early to say that this new trend is the next wave of the NFL.

The same way everyone overreacted to the Kansas City Chiefs and Los Angeles Rams shootout earlier this season. That was followed up by low scoring all around the NFL.

The Bills aren’t without a top offensive mind in the building either. Brian Daboll has five Super Bowl rings and won a national championship as part of the Alabama coaching staff. He has learned under great head coaches and is honestly a steal for the Bills.

An overpowering offense is the hot new trend in the NFL. That doesn’t mean a great defense, like the one taking shape in Buffalo, can’t flip that trend and show that a team can’t win being one-dimensional.

It is easy to get caught up in the trend of the year. Bills fans may dream about having the next young offensive guru, but fans should feel comfortable with McDermott in town. He has surrounded himself with a smart offensive mind in Daboll and has focused on making the team a strong, connected group.
