Buffalo Bills: Both good and bad rankings on Pro Football Focus

The Buffalo Bills had one player selected for a great honor by Pro Football Focus, while one phase of the game showed up negatively in a ranking.

Pro Football Focus consistently provides interesting statistics and in-depth looks at the game. This often involves proof that the Buffalo Bills have talented players throughout the roster.

So let’s start with some good news from PFF.

The site released its 2018 All-Rookie Team and Buffalo’s own Robert Foster showed up as the flex player on the team. This is a great achievement considering the team seemingly gave up on him at one point during the year.

Foster responded by becoming a reliable deep threat for Josh Allen and he finished the year second in receiving yards behind Zay Jones. That came on only 27 receptions.

For those wondering, Baker Mayfield showed up as the quarterback on the PFF All-Rookie Team.

Now let’s look at some bad, but not surprising news from a PFF ranking.

The site released a ranking of all 32 special teams units in 2018. Can you guess where the Bills ended up?

If you guessed “near the bottom,” you are correct. The Bills showed up at No. 31 overall, just ahead of the Cleveland Browns.

This isn’t too surprising and is why the Bills fired special teams coordinator Danny Crossman after he had been with the team since 2013. Whether it be the eye test or advanced stats, the unit clearly needed a change in leadership.

So we have both good and bad news, although the bad news can be seen as a good since it means the special teams will have a new coach and hopefully some better results. Sometimes things need to first get terrible in order to get better.

Also, good for Robert Foster. I hope to see him in a Bills uniform for years to come. And scoring touchdowns. Lots of touchdowns.
