Kelvin Benjamin and Cam Newton gave Buffalo Bills fans an extra storyline to follow on Thursday night but their feud should die down in 2018.

Kelvin Benjamin didn’t exactly enjoy his time in Carolina with Cam Newton. The quarterback was miffed about that fact and gave Buffalo Bills fans an early preseason feud to focus on.

Too bad the teams don’t meet up again in the regular season.

The awkward hands-behind-the-back “confrontation” between the two could have escalated into something greater but the situation should die down from here on out. If the teams were in the same division, perhaps the feud would grow.

I actually like what Newton did in this instance. He handled it himself and didn’t make any passive aggressive comments through the media. The same goes for Benjamin, after his original comments of course, when he said he has moved on from the situation.

This whole situation could have been avoided but it should go down as a beef between two guys that doesn’t result in an on-field storylines anytime soon. The good news for Bills fans is that Benjamin showed up Thursday and had a nice game by picking up a touchdown and squashing some fans seated in the front row behind the end zone.

Benjamin doesn’t necessarily have to back up his comments by playing better, but he has to do just that if he wants a contract extension in Buffalo. Or a big contract anywhere in the NFL.

Things didn’t work out in Carolina and that doesn’t matter to Bills fans. All that matters now is that Benjamin solidifies himself as the number one guy in Buffalo in 2018 and hopefully for years to come. Not making dumb comments would help keep the focus on his play too.
