Brad “The Bruiser” Eichkorn and Alex Jones talk Buffalo Bills football. Alex Jones provides his perspective from camp and on the apparent QB battle.
In the blink of an eye we’re already into Week 2 of training camp. For the second time since the 2015 training camp, the Buffalo Bills are in the midst of a quarterback battle.
With last year’s starting quarterback Tyrod Taylor being traded to the Browns, the job is wide open.
Alex Jones has attended several practices from Bills training camp at St. John Fisher College in Pittsford. On this week’s episode of the BLD Podcast, Alex shares his observations from camp, with a great focus on the quarterback battle. Click here to listen or use the player below.
As mentioned last week, I’m of the belief that it would be in the best interest of the team (long-term) that Josh Allen uses this season to learn from AJ McCarron and Nathan Peterman.
My issue with reports I’ve read on Allen (from the national media) is the emphasis on every mistake he makes. Last I knew no quarterback in this league is perfect (even Tom Brady). Allen is an unproven rookie, who came from a non power 5 conference. His numbers from his days in Wyoming do not sparkle, but everyone has taken notice of his physical abilities. However, I don’t think that would be enough to start in Week 1.
As we explored last week, Alex provides a reassuring perspective on the wide receiver position. Kelvin Benjamin appears to be the clear number one receiver early in camp. Second-year wide receiver Zay Jones has yet to practice, but Bills fans hope he gains ground after a disappointing rookie season (and offseason).
We also explore a promising defensive front, with the defense led by rookie middle linebacker Tremaine Edmunds, who in camp has taken command of the Bills huddle. There will be a lot to gather from this Bills team in training camp, but we truly won’t know where they stand (like last year) until the take the field against Baltimore in Week 1.
