Buffalo Bills: Top 5 stories entering training camp

The Bills will be starting a minimum of three new offensive linemen in 2018. While there was a lot of speculation of a large battle for each spot, the spring OTAs featured generic lineups.

The left and right tackle positions appear to be locked in. Dion Dawkins returns to start on the left side, and Jordan Mills will man the right tackle spot. In between those two it’s a free for all for starting jobs.

While there will be a new mix of starters, there won’t be a lack of experience. John Miller and Vlad Ducasse have started for the Bills in the past, and Ryan Groy could also push to replace Eric Wood full-time.

The first unit will feature a similar mix as what dominated starter reps at OTAs. Dawkins, Miller, Russell Bodine, Ducasse and Mills will get first crack to lock in their jobs.

Yet the benefit of this Bills roster is there is plenty of competition. None of the spots except for left tackle will be a lock. If any of the competitors get hot, especially during preseason games, expect to see a surprise starter coming at the offensive line.

While watching preseason action, keep an eye on the rushing yards with the reserve units. Each sack allowed will be key in deciding roles, and best yet for the Bills, this unit faces familiar schemes against Carolina when the team sees them first.
