The dust has settled and the jersey numbers have been assigned. Now, we even have some power rankings to enjoy.
The Buffalo Bills have added multiple pieces in what are to be believed as cornerstones for the franchise moving forward. The weeks following the draft are some of the slowest weeks of year in regards to NFL news.
Of course, there is speculation on players who have never played a snap.
There are also rankings. So many rankings.
ESPN power ranked the 32 teams in the NFL on how the roster looks “post-draft”.
Where did the Buffalo Bills land?
The Buffalo Bills currently rank 26th in ESPN’s latest power rankings.
ESPN had this to say about their ranking:
"“New head coach run! Sean McDermott has consolidated power in a very short time. And he came out of the first two rounds with a new cornerback, a new wide receiver and one of the draft’s top guards. Buffalo likes both of its lines, and if quarterback Tyrod Taylor is reliable, the Bills could surprise. One of these years, they’ll surprise. Right?”"
Can’t really disagree with what they have to say. If the O-line blocks and the quarterback doesn’t throw interceptions, then the operation will run smoothly!
Same for every team.
First Round cornerback, Tre’Davious White, will be tested this season. With match-ups against Matt Ryan, Derek Carr and — of course — Tom Brady, the young rookie will find his place in the depth chart.
Key match-ups for the upcoming season can be found here.
Where did the rest of the AFC East rank?
The Buffalo Bills rank third among it’s AFC East counterparts.
- New England Patriots –Rank 1
- Miami Dolphins –Rank 13
- Buffalo Bills –Rank 26
- New York Jets –Rank 30
The Patriots’ first draft pick came in the third round, but yet they still remain among the blue-bloods at the number 1 spot. Did we really expect anything else?
The Power rankings are not something to get too worked up about and some expected the Bills to be higher with the draft haul and return of Sammy Watkins. A first year head coach and GM is enough to offset that.
Buffalo can sign and draft as many players as they want, but until the quality of play improves on the field, don’t expect their ranking to move up. A 7-9 record last year got us here.
And now we rely on Coach McDermott to get us out.
Next: It's time to trust the process
