The Buffalo Bills added yet another receiving threat on Monday, August 1st. They signed WR Kain Colter, although the terms to the deal haven’t been disclosed.

It was an announcement that came with the Buffalo Bills‘ release of WR Davonte Allen and K Marshall Morgan, both of whom were getting beat by other competition in training camp. It was also co-announced with the signing of RB Reggie Bush.

Kain Colter is a wide-receiver that went undrafted in the 2014 NFL Draft out of Northwestern University. He spent all four years of his college career at the school from 2010-2013. He proved to be a highly versatile player in college as he was a solid part of the team’s passing game, running game and receiving game.

In his college career, Colter threw for 18 touchdown passes, caught three touchdown passes and ran for another 28 touchdowns. In his final two seasons, he was the team’s co-captain and even went on to found the College Athletes Players Association with two fellow college athletes: Luke Bonner and Ramogi Huma. Their goal with the association was to give college athlete’s the right to collectively bargain. However, their goal was shot down in 2015, when the National Labor Relations Board stopped Northwestern players from unionizing.

After going undrafted in the 2014 draft, he found a spot on the Minnesota Vikings’ practice squad and remained in that position the entire season. He was then added to the Los Angeles Rams’ roster, but was later waived by the team this past June. Now, he finds himself on a Bills’ roster filled with young receiving talent and hopes to add to that — despite never playing in an NFL game yet.

Colter is a player that can bring even more excitement and depth to the Bills’ receiving core, which is helpful to a team that has been plagued by injuries in recent years. He’s a 6-foot, 194-pound receiver with a lot of speed and the ability to make plays anywhere on the field.

With Rex Ryan calling the plays this season, if Colter gets to see any action during the regular season, no one can be prepared for how they might use him. They could virtually use him any way possible, so we will see a bit of that as training camp continues and we prepare for the regular season.
